Being made in the image of our creative God, students’ creative abilities and talents are a reflection of Him. Students grow in their visual literacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving as they create visual art as a form of communication and expression. Students’ technical skills are developed in Introduction to Art as students use a variety of media while engaging in the creative process of perception, production, and reflection. Advanced classes are offered to students who are interested in refining their artistic skills in the areas of drawing, painting, ceramics/sculpture, design, and independent study. Local art shows and competitions are a venue to celebrate and acknowledge the achievements of the artists at SCCS.
The SCCS music program focuses on using music for the sole purpose of glorifying God with the gifts and talents that He has given to each student. Through vocal and instrumental opportunities, students are encouraged to strive towards their full, God-given potential as they study music in-depth. They also gain and explore various venues of music, giving them an appreciation of the variety that music has to offer.
The SCCS high school drama team provides an extracurricular activity for all those who seek to develop their God-given talents in the arena of theater. Twice yearly, performances are prepared and performed for community audiences and school groups. Past performances include "The Women of Lockerbie", "Anne of Green Gables", "Smoke on the Mountain (a musical)", "Opal (a musical)", "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer", "Spirit!", "My Brother's Keeper", "Who Let the Dogs Out?", and "Assist" (an original work by the drama team). Students are encouraged and coached to strengthen their communication, performance skills and confidence. They learn to depend upon each other, encouraging one another with the ultimate goal of glorifying God. The drama team also provides opportunities for students to support the performances with technical skills running sound, sound effects computer and lights. Additionally students lend their time to design and build sets as well as assist with costumes, hair and make-up.
